Learning Karate online – is that even possible?

Online training connects martial artists across borders. While living far apart from each other, or while traveling, it’s possible to gain skills and exchange experiences.

Martial arts connects body and mind and needs the whole person. Learning it is based on experience in the dojo, with and without partner, with a good teacher who literally stays in touch with their students. It takes time, patience and endurance and a lot of hard work.

Yet there are plenty of things where online resources will benefit the dedicated martial artist: Tutorials (in video or text), background knowledge, lectures of all kind, the learning and drilling of techniques and forms – and to a degree even the training with a partner. Don't miss this chance to broaden your martial arts experience.

Online Resources

Besides online classes, the Online Dojo offers a growing database of video tutorials, background information and other content. These Online Resources are available with a Missing Link yearly licence. Get your community license here, with all membership benefits, for £20 per year.

Who are we?

The Online Dojo is a part of the Missing Link Martial Arts Community, but open for everyone from any style or martial arts. The lessons are run by instructors of the community in Scotland, England and Germany.

Missing Link Karate

Missing Link is a modern martial arts concept based on Karate and Kung Fu principles. Compatible with most traditional martial arts, it is focused on modern application. Our lively community offers regular seminars, online training (plus videos) and dojos in multiple locations across Europe. A unique grading system puts individual development in the front of the learning experience and makes sure that the Community constantly develops its knowledge, integrating the expertise of every student and practitioner.

The online classes

Training online can not replace real life lessons face to face, in close contact and with direct communication, yet some things work very well remotely.

  • Learning and drilling techniques

  • Martial fitness, health, strength, stamina

  • Motor skill education

  • Form introduction

  • Background knowledge and theory

  • Qi Gong/internal training

For partner training, bunkai, kumite – especially the more sophisticated forms – online training is always limited. Advanced students can benefit from remote lessons if they have a partner with them. Online training should have groups of at least two students in that case.

Private lessons can be efficient for certain topics and help us to keep in touch with students and teachers who are spread all over the world. Their scope is also limited, but with highly experienced martial artists and a partner for training, many things are possible.
